Bill and I are in our last week in the New Orleans area. My emotions are getting out of control. I feel happy and sad at the same time. I’m trying to find an appropriate word for my emotional state… melancholy, bittersweet, ambivalent? Bill says the word is “sappy”.
As we go about our preparations the count down has definitely started. This is probably the last time doing this or that in New Orleans. We are saying goodbye to folks. We went on a trike ride along the levee near our house and took lots of photos to document how lucky we have been living here with the mighty Mississippi in our backyard.
We are mostly packed. Still some oddball things to figure out, like how do you pack 200 clothes hangers, or do you just throw them away? Also, the moving company told us they do not accept aerosol cans and hazardous materials. How hazardous are cleaning products?
Today the buyers of our home had the house inspected. The buyers were here and the realtor. We were told in advance that we should not be here during the inspection and it would take 2 - 3 hours. We needed to sign a power of attorney document at the title company so we did that while the inspection was happening then we drove over to City Park and had coffee and beignets at Cafe Du Monde. With perfect weather today we had a lovely time and were reminded of how special New Orleans is. Once more we were very sappy.
Oh I totally get it. Even when I left places that I didn't have such great memories, there was still a bit of melancholy seeping in. When I left places I loved and didn't want to leave, I was trying to look ahead to the next "adventure." Y'all keep having new adventures!!
most cleaning products you have are probably illegal in California! Not worth moving. Hangers--I doubt that between you you have 200 pieces of clothing to hang. If you have time create a sculpture! I think you are lucky to be leaving New Orleans on such good terms. You have really taken advantage of the city on so many different levels. And what memories!
